Every organisation we work with is different. The challenges, people, evidence and constraints are never the same.
We work alongside teams at key decision points — bringing structure, challenge and clarity so they can decide what to do next.
SHAPING DIRECTION
Getting clear on what matters — and what to do next
When direction feels unclear, values are pulling in different directions or evidence points to multiple options, it can be hard to know where to focus.
We help teams:
- Make sense of complex or conflicting evidence
- Surface what really matters to different stakeholders
- Align around clear priorities and shared intent
- Decide what to do next — and what not to do
This work can include strategy development, options appraisal, facilitated workshops and sense-making sessions that bring people into the same conversation.
Most valuable when:
you’re at an early stage or point of change and need clarity on priorities and next steps.

in action
We worked with The Hyndburn Way partnership to map mental health support for young people across one of the most deprived areas of the UK — bringing services, referral routes and lived experience together into a shared picture of the system.
The focus wasn’t just on what existed, but on how people actually moved through support, where pressure points sat and where decisions were getting stuck.
This gave leaders and partners a clearer basis for prioritisation, coordination and investment — grounded in evidence and the realities of people’s lives.
navigating DELIVERY
Turning strategy into decisions that work in the real world
When direction is set and there’s momentum to act, delivery needs structure, coordination and clear decision-making.
We work alongside teams to:
- Translate strategic intent into deliverable programmes
- Design approaches to delivery that work across complex systems
- Bring partners, funders and delivery teams into alignment
- Support leaders to make informed, defensible decisions as delivery unfolds
This work often includes leading discrete projects, coordinating partners, facilitating key decision points and providing the analytical and relational glue that keeps delivery moving.
Most valuable when:
the direction is set, but delivery involves real trade-offs, coordination and high-stakes decisions.
in action
Hampshire County Council commissioned Food Labs to support healthier eating and greater dietary diversity for children and young people.
We were brought in once the direction was clear, to help turn that ambition into delivery — developing resources and training that made sense for families, as well as the professionals supporting them across schools, community settings and health services.
By engaging stakeholders, testing assumptions and creating space for collective judgement, the programme was shaped around real needs and real constraints.

LEARNING & ADAPTING
Understanding what’s happening — and strengthening what works
Good decisions depend on understanding what’s actually happening, not just what was intended.
We help organisations:
- Design and deliver meaningful evaluation
- Use evidence and lived experience together
- Learn in real time, not just at the end
- Adapt and improve without losing momentum
Our evaluations are practical, proportionate and focused on learning that supports better decisions — not reports that sit on shelves.
Most valuable when:
work is live and you need evidence that supports learning, accountability and better decisions as things evolve.

in action
We’re working with Leicestershire Health Determinants Research Collaboration — a partnership bringing the council, researchers and communities together to use evidence to improve population health.
As external evaluators over five years, we combine structured reporting with targeted deep dives that create space for reflection, shared learning and course-correction while the work is live.
The result is evaluation that’s useful in practice – while also standing up to funder scrutiny.
